Jean-Pierre Jeunet's A VERY LONG ENGAGEMENT

By Dennis D. McDonald

This wonderful film is a visual and emotional epic. The story: a young French woman spends years following World War I searching for her lost fiance. The visions of war are harrowing and ghastly, but the recreations of daily French urban and rural life provide a reality that is touching, bittersweet, and at times, humorous. An added bonus is an entertaining and informative director’s commentary.

I hereby forgive Audrey Tautou for that turkey The DaVinci Code!
