Would Stanley Kubrick Laugh?

By Dennis D. McDonald

Remember the scene in Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey where NASA official Heywood Floyd, on his way to the Moon, stops to read the lengthy zero-gravity toilet instructions? It’s one of the few humorous moments in this film and usually gets a laugh.

I was reminded of this recently when I went back to read these instructions posted on the Sony BMG Music Web Site. These explain how to play their copy protected CD’s.

I’m old enough to remember how we used to do it in the Good Old Days:

  1. Open Tray.
  2. Put CD in Tray
  3. Close Tray
  4. Press Play

Makes you feel nostalgic, doesn’t it?
