John Lasseter & Joe Ranft's CARS

By Dennis D. McDonald

I’m not a big fan of automobiles as an art form and I don’t have a nostalgia for their cultural significance (though I can’t argue with their importance) but this movie is a real winner.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s clever, heartfelt, funny, and just plain gorgeous to look at. The folks at Pixar are geniuses at transferring emotion and humor via art and technology to the big screen in a way that is unique and timeless. And they do it without crudity and with a sense of playfulness and adventure that is missing from many other recent animated films.

They deserve their success and our thanks.

This is now on my list of “films I never get tired of watching.”
