Craig Gillespie's "CRUELLA"

Craig Gillespie's "CRUELLA"

Movie review by Dennis D. McDonald

I loved this movie and its weird and unique vibe.

Part of my enjoyment is watching Emma Stone and Emma Thompson compete with each other. It would be fun to have these characters over for a beer — but definitely not together!

Emma Stone I always enjoy. My favorite performance of hers is in the MANIAC series but her twisted Cruella is a real delight. The world Cruella inhabits here is reminiscent of the twisted world of Harley Quinn in Birds of Prey but from a definitely more upscale perspective.

Costume wise the outfits on display here are as impressive as anything I’ve seen on the current FOUNDATION series. (Perhaps real fashionistas will differ but I was impressed!)

Finally, praise is due to the Disney company for producing this film. This is about as far away from 101 Dalmatians as you can possibly imagine, and that is definitely a movie I loved as a child. (My dad worked as a movie theater manager on weekends when I was a kid and I saw 101 Dalmatians 11 times.)
