Old Golden Nature Guides for a New Generation

Old Golden Nature Guides for a New Generation

By Dennis D. McDonald

I recently found a stack of old GOLDEN NATURE GUIDES in my daughter's bedroom and packed them up and gave them to her so her two year old daughter could look at the pictures. It's never too soon to introduce the kids to nature and science, I figured.

One of the books, still in decent condition, was the STARS guide that was originally published in 1951 and which, I think, I had when I was growing up.

I thought long and hard about passing it along -- not because of any antique value or nostalgia but because much of the information it contains is woefully out of date.

But I relented and gave it to her anyway. If looking at the pictures will influence my two year old granddaughter to look up at the night sky and ask questions that will be a success!
