Banners and Widgets for Nonprofits and Volunteer Organizations, Part 1

By Dennis D. McDonald

Partly in response to the volunteer work my wife has been doing here in Alexandria, Virginia I’ve been researching the availability of banners and widgets published by nonprofits and volunteer organizations.

Banners are the clickable images or text blocks that many web sites display that are published and distributed as part of an advertising or promotional campaign. Widgets are small software applications you can add to a web page that can be used to access or display data managed elsewhere on the web.

Here’s what I’ve found so far; I’m sure there are more and would appreciate your contacting me if you know of more:

Here is one possible source:

Widgetbox

Try searching for terms such as "volunteer," "nonprofit," and "humanitarian."

1) I would check out the Myspace profile "Nonprofit Organizations" -

or maybe even ask Heather Mansfield of DIOSA, who maintains this:

and pointed to this new official MySpace resource:

2) I might ask NTEN or Net2 if they would be interested in such a project?

3) Here are some cool examples from Free Press:
