I believe General Patton's position was that "A good plan (violently) executed now, is better than a perfect plan next week."

In the context of Project Mgmt and Social Media, I can see where an excessive preoccupation on "getting the plan right" can certainly waste a lot of time and advantage. Emphasis on the Social Media, if applied in a flexible, and focused, and responsive way can help provide the re-directs necessary to make the plan more dynamic. It become more of an issue of "process control". Making a map vs carrying a gps with you after you start.
